COMIC GAMERS ASSEMBLE PRESENTS: DISNEY INFINITY 2.0 HOLIDAY 2014 BUYERS GUIDE

I know I’ll catch a lot of heat over this by those who adore Halloween, but in three days time, it’ll be over and the madness of the Holiday season will kick in, if it hasn’t already. One item that I’m assuming will be in a lot of wish lists this year is the toys-to-life Disney super hero mash-up game, Disney Infinity 2.0, which can get insanely pricey with how much stuff is available to consumers, let alone what’s down the road.

To sort out what are the best things to buy for the game thus far, I’ve developed a helpful buyers guide for those who can’t afford to get every single figure and play set.

1) THE GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY PLAY SET

The Avengers playset is a little light on content, so if you want to extend your playtime a little before diving into the Toy Box mode, this is the best extra set to purchase. It gives you two figures: Star-Lord and Gamora as well as the most unique environment to play around in and overall, it’s much more fun than the playset that comes with the starter pack. Plus, it’s a great gift to go with that Guardians of the Galaxy Blu-ray that’s right around the corner.

2) THE ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN PLAY SET

Of the two play sets, you should get the Guardians of the Galaxy first, but the Spider-Man one isn’t a bad choice as an extra or a back up if you can’t get your hands on your first choice. The two includes figures: Spider-Man and Nova, are of the most fun to play with and having Nova in your roster gives some extra missions in the Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers play sets.

3) VENOM FIGURE

With any toy line, you’re going to want more figures, and of the first extra single figures I would consider picking up, Venom sits firmly on top. Not only is he of the best looking figures of the entire line, but in-game he’s an excellent combination of Spider-Man’s web-slinging with the power of the Hulk.

4) HULK FIGURE

Hulk is FINALLY available to everyone else who didn’t buy into the collectors edition, which wasn’t even an option if you were playing on Nintendo and Microsoft machines, and he was worth the wait. He’s another large figure like Venom that looks great with strong hits and the ability to wall crawl when leveled up properly. Special mini-games will remain locked in the Avengers playset without him, and similar to Nova, he extends the Ultimate Spider-Man playset length a tad with a few extra missions.

5) IRON FIST FIGURE

When I picked up Disney Infinity 2.0 a month ago, Iron Fist was among the figures I’d told myself I could hold off on, should I not be able to buy the entire set. After putting him on the base and playing with him, he’s easily one of the best figures of the lot and I’m glad that I picked him up. Disney Infinity’s missions are all about hitting things, and Iron Fist’s martial arts move feel the best of all the characters melee attacks, which is not surprising as the game comes from DMC developer Ninja Theory.

6) ROCKET RACCOON FIGURE

Rocket and his hired muscle/best friend Groot were the two break out stars of this summer’s Guardians of the Galaxy, but as adorable as Groot is in either his baby or adult form, Rocket is the one to throw coin down on. Of all the characters that have ranged attacks, Rocket is the best and by picking him up, you claim access to more side-missions in the base Avengers playset.
