NEWS ROUND UP: BATMAN WINS AT THE GAME AWARDS, TUROK’S ORIGINS ARE REVEALED AND EVEN MORE TMNT GAMES

The annual Game Awards took place this past Thursday, and while there wasn’t a bombshell announcement like Wonder Woman or Blade – both of which were sadly absent this year – there was still something for lovers of retro comic book video games to get excited over.

BATMAN: ARKHAM SHADOW TAKES HOME GOLD AND TUROK RETURNS

Congratulations are in order to the extremely talented team at Camouflaj, not to mention the support studios, performers and staff that helped give players Batman: Arkham Shadow. Their efforts were rewarded at The Game Awards when Batman: Arkham Shadow took the trophy for best VR/AR game. Camouflaj’s Ryan Payton was on hand to accept the honor on behalf of the development crew.

Later in the evening to the surprise of many, Turok Origins was announced from Universal and developer Saber Interactive. When it eventually arrives, it will be the first big-budget, AAA console game in the series since 2008’s reboot from Disney of all people and defunct studio Propaganda Games. The last Turok game that owed much to the golden age books and less the heavy sci-fi take on the material from Acclaim was 2019’s Turok: Escape from Lost Valley, a top-down action game that’s now delisted.

It will also mark the first time the shooting action moves from the first to third-person perspective. Though it has “origins” in the title, Saber has stated that no prior knowledge of other Turok games will be needed to enjoy blasting dinosaurs and aliens.

Turok Origins will be playable on PC, the Xbox Series consoles and PlayStation 5.
