TUROK (2008) DESIGNER HEADS TO KICKSTARTER FOR SPIRITUAL SUCCESSOR GRAPHIC NOVEL PROJECT

After the demise of Acclaim, the Turok IP was picked up by Buena Vista Interactive who commissioned Propaganda with rebooting the series on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 which was release in 2008. A proposed sequel was in the works, but was cancelled as Turok didn’t meet Buena Vista’s acceptable sales figures. Propaganda was moved to the video game tie-in to 2010’s Tron: Legacy, a game that also unfortunately underperformed and caused Propaganda to close their doors.

The senior designer of Turok (2008), Tim Lewinson, along with a talented group of people including Gary Whitta who helped pen the story of Telltale’s The Walking Dead are Kickstarting a spritual successor of sorts to Turok in the form of a graphic novel  with a plot similar to the original Turok: Dinosaur Hunter on the N64. Titled Savage Empire, the book is set in a section of California that has been broken off from the rest of the United States (Escape from LA, much?) because of a series of earthquakes that have opened mysterious portals that have brought dinosaurs back to the present day.

Should Savage Empire get funded and turn into a success, the team hope to turn it into a video game.
