Late last week a shocker of an announcement happened when Square-Enix revealed they were partnering with Marvel to create multiple video games, with the first being an Avengers game codenamed “Reassemble”. The project, among others it has come to light, is being worked on by both Crystal Dynamics of Tomb Raider fame as well as S-E Montreal who helped reboot Deus Ex. Given this new deal with Marvel, what does it mean for the franchises that both studio were working on prior to this new partnership? According to Eurogamer, it’s not good news for fans of at least one series: Deus Ex.
Eurogamer uncovered that due to the lackluster sales of last year’s Mankind Divided, production has halted on any future Deus Ex games as Square-Enix Montreal is now being tasked with helping the new Tomb Raider, rumored to be going under the title Shadows of the Tomb Raider, the Avengers game as well as one that has yet to be announced in any official capacity: Guardians of the Galaxy.
That’s pretty great news for Guardians fans of course as Square-Enix Montreal has more than proved themselves as an excellent game studio, but disappointing for those who had invested in the new Deus Ex titles that the studio was originally formed to craft.
