Late last week, an advertisement showed up on the ShopDisney website for a new line of figures dubbed the “Toybox” line which had a remarkably similarity to the toys that once communicated with the cancelled Disney Infinity line with the main difference being that the toys had articulation and were not just mini-statues:
Like Infinity, the line is set to include figures from Star Wars, Marvel as well as Pixar (weirdly no mention of Disney proper) and will be available from Disney stores as well as online starting this Friday November 3rd. The figures that were in the advertisement that made the public aware of the toys were from Star Wars, Rey and a Stormtrooper, but soon Kylo Ren was unveiled along with characters from Toy Story. Infiniteer Adventures, a YouTube channel dedicated to all things Disney Infinity, was made aware via Twitter of the first Marvel figure to come to the line, and it’s a timely one: None other than Thor who has a big movie set to drop this weekend in Thor: Ragnarok:
It’s interesting to note that had Disney Infinity been allowed to continue, a 4.0 edition was planned that would have featured Thor: Ragnarok in some capacity as uncovered by Patrick Klepek last year. While it’s still sad that Disney Infinity is no more, it’s great to see that one of the best aspects of the game, the toys, get to live on in some capacity. Unfortunately though that because the figures are presently only planned from the ShopDisney platform, it means that customers outside of the United States (like myself who reside in Canada), won’t be able to cheaply buy these figures as the stores to buy them don’t exist and shipping is very expensive outside of the US.

UPDATE:
Via jasoninquires.com, the first wave of Marvel figures included in the premiere set of “Toybox” action figures will include Spider-Man, Hulk, Thor, and Iron Man. Interestingly enough the back package of the figures features the promo image that was used for Disney Infinity despite the actual figures looking different from how they appeared in Infinity. We’ve already seen Thor for example, and both Spider-Man and Iron Man’s suits are takes on how they appeared in last summer’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. There’s still yet to be a reveal of what the Hulk figure will look like.
