Coming from mcvuk.com is word that UK retailer High Street has listings for a Dark Knight Rises videogame tie-in. The information suggests that the title will be a full retail release like last fall’s Batman: Arkham City and not the recently released downloadable Gotham City Imposters. No other information was made available about the game, other than its potential existence.
WB Games has not confirmed the validity of the claim, but I have to wonder if a game was in the works that it would’ve been shown by now with the film just over four months away. It could be that WB Games is perhaps giving whomever is working on the title some extra time to work on it, possibly tying it in with the home video release similar to how EA handled the release of their Superman Returns game. It’s also worth speculating if Rocksteady, the developers of the best received superhero games of all time, would be working on this game much like how Beenox is working on the Amazing Spider-Man having completed two other games with that hero.
The last time there was a tie-in game to a Batman film was 2005’s Batman Beings, which while not highly regarded, is a solid Batman game mixing Splinter Cell-esque stealth broken up by Batmobile driving levels and featured exceptional voicework from the entire cast of that film. I played the game as recently as last summer and had quite a lot of fun with the game. There was supposed to be a videogame inspired by the Dark Knight from publisher EA and developer Pandemic but it was canceled due to issues with the games quality and the closing of the studio. More on this as it develops.
