If there’s a Marvel movie coming soon to a theater near you shortly, you can wage the mobile game is either jumping the gun or not far behind. In this case, it’s the former.
Guardians of the Galaxy: The Universal Weapon is a real-time battle game where you can play as the Guardians roster that appears in the feature film in over sixty different levels across numerous planets. Additionally the game features an arena mode as well as a battle mode that comes with its own story.
Although the game is out weeks before the film, those worried about spoiling the films plot need not worry. “We started the game before we knew anything about the film, other than the release date,” says Aaron Norstad, a producer on the game. “We knew from the beginning that although we were going to strategically plan to launch the same time as the film, we knew that we didn’t want to be the game that was the same storyline as the film…It’s sort of another kind of offshoot of a story that draws references to and from the film, but is different,” he added.
You can download The Universal Weapon on iOS, Android, and Windows Phone devices at a cost of $4.99
