Disney already has one video game property that requires the purchase of additional figures with Disney Infinity, and now they’re adding a second franchise that’s somewhat similar, but with a twist.
Launching in October at a cost of $120, with pre-orders being accepted in July, is Playmotion, a role-playing toy that combines mobile devices with figures and play accessories. The user will wear an accessory, like an Iron Man repulsor gauntlet that comes with the set, and receive mission updates via motion sensors and wireless devices instructing the user what their target is and how to avoid and attack it. The best part about the package is that the mission updates will come from none other than JARVIS. The set also comes two power activators as well as two figures: Captain America and Red Skull, though it’s unclear exactly how the figures come into play as additional missions can be downloaded via the AvengersNet app, and it’s strange that a toy that encourages outdoor play can come with something that can probably be easily lost while outdoors.
The first set will be Marvel themed but it will be followed by a Star Wars set in 2016 and a Frozen version the next year in 2017.
