MARVEL: AVENGERS ALLIANCE AND ITS SEQUEL TO CLOSE AT THE END OF SEPTEMBER

Back in early 2012 when I started Comic Gamers Assemble, one of the games I was reporting on was the progenitor free-to-play Marvel title, Marvel: Avengers Alliance that initially launched on Facebook but has since been ported to mobile devices and even received a sequel this year, Marvel: Avengers Alliance 2Avengers Alliance was the first in the string of free-to-play Marvel games that introduced the element ISO-8 that was a thread that went through all the games and was even part of the plot of Marvel Puzzle Quest when it was ported to consoles last fall.

Now after four and a half years of being in operation, Marvel Avengers Alliance and its recently released sequel will cease to exist across all platforms, effective at the end of this month. From Disney’s official Facebook page:

Today we are announcing the shutdown of Marvel: Avengers Alliance and Marvel: Avengers Alliance 2 on all platforms, including the App Store, Google Play, Amazon Appstore, Windows Phone Store, and Facebook. Beginning today, we are no longer accepting new purchases or downloads, but the games will be available to play until September 30, 2016.

Regrading the reason as to why it chose to close down the game now, Disney had this to add:

At this time, we are shifting our development focus towards other online and mobile play experiences, and a growing selection of Disney Mobile apps. We deeply appreciate your enthusiasm and loyal support for Marvel: Avengers Alliance and sincerely hope you will continue to enjoy the large variety of online and mobile play experiences Disney offers, and will bring you soon!
