The long running Mortal Kombat series is no stranger to crossing over with comic books. The 8th numbered entry was even a match up against the heroes and villains of the DC Universe with the big bad of that entry being an amalgamation of Darkseid and MK warlord Shao Kahn. Most recently, Mortal Kombat 11 included the Joker, Todd McFarlane’s Spawn, and if you want to count it, RoboCop vs. Terminator if you pitted those 2 guest characters against one another.
Rumored for months and officially konfirmed yesterday evening at San Diego Comic-Con, the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat 1 is bringing even more comic book characters for its first round of DLC fighters. Available if you buy into the premium edition – which will set you back $139 plus tax here in Canada – Peacemaker, Homelander from The Boys and Omin-Man from Robert Kirkman’s Invincible join the likes of Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, Johnny Cage and company in the first Kombat Pack. The trio were introduced via a brief teaser trailer.
From the brief footage, both Peacemaker and Homelander looks like they’re ripped straight from the world of their respective films and shows. There’s no word on whether or not John Cena or Anthony Starr will be providing voices for either character. When Peacemaker makes his presence known, you do hear an eagle, so fingers crossed that means that Eagly will factor into his fighting style, or better yet, his fatality.
Mortal Kombat 1 is available September 14th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, Nintendo Switch and PC.
