TUROK 3: SHADOW OF OBLIVION CONCLUDES THE REMASTERED TRILOGY ON NOVEMBER 14TH

Since their inception, Nightdive’s name has become synonymous with high-quality remasters and remakes of classic first-person shooters. Just this year alone they launched a critically acclaimed remake of System Shock 2, and modern updates for both Rise of the Triad and Quake II. Thanks to Nightdive Studios, players who grew up with Acclaim’s Turok series have also been able to enjoy loving recreations of both Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and Turok 2: Seeds of Evil on every piece of modern hardware imaginable.

Given how busy they’ve become – not to mention their recent acquisition by Atari – it looked like Nightdive simply wouldn’t have time to get around to resurrecting Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion. It’s nice to be wrong though, as seemingly out of nowhere, the news came out that not only was Turok 3 on Nightdive’s slate, it’s set to arrive on November 14th.

Originally released in the year 2000 exclusively on the Nintendo 64 – both Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and its sequel also came out on PC – Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion has become somewhat forgotten despite getting respectable reviews upon its launch. Much of that probably had to do with the aging Nintendo 64 hardware it was locked to at a time when Sega’s Dreamcast was already on the market and Sony was about to drop the juggernaut that was the PlayStation 2.

Like the Turok remasters before them, the third and final Nintendo 64 chapter not counting the Rage Wars spin-off, comes with the enhancements you would come to expect from Nightdive. This includes sharper visuals, better lighting and enhanced gameplay speed courtesy of their proprietary KEX engine.

Nightdive brought back Turok: Dinosaur Hunter to PC in 2016, and since then they’ve brought it and its sequel to all major platforms. After all these years, it’s amazing to be able to easily experience the whole trilogy together for both longtime lovers of the series and newcomers alike.
