STATE OF PLAY: MARVEL TOKON: FIGHTING SOULS COMING IN 2026

Sony’s latest State of Play presentation concluded with a surprise that absolutely no one saw coming. PlayStation Studios have announced a new partnership with Marvel Games and Arc System Works (Guilty Gear series, Dragon Ball FighterZ) to develop a new fighting game. Titled Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, it can only be described as well, the most anime Marvel fighting game ever. Seen in the 2-minute debut trailer are perhaps some of the most unique takes on characters like Spider-Man, Captain America, Doctor Doom, Star-Lord and Storm among others. Iron Man looks like a person sized Gundam.

It looked like Marvel and Capcom seemingly mended their relationship to gave us Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics last year. If one was a betting person on what Marvel themed fighting game would come out of Japan, it would be a new entry in that beloved series. It’s for that reason that Marvel Tokon truly was a shocker to this author and I’m sure countless others. Whether it’s Capcom or another team though, it’s the players who are winning here.

Expected to arrive in 2026 on PlayStation 5 and PC, Fighting Souls is a 4×4 fighting game with almost too much style to spare. Given the pedigree of Arc System Works, it will easily have the substance to back it up too.
