The output on Comic Book Video Games has been lacking as of late. By the time I’m able to get news out, it’s already, well, old news. So, I’m trying a new format wherein I collect things from the past month in almost a magazine style format as a way to address breaking information and give a reminder on headlines that have arisen over the last few weeks.
MARVEL, LIMITED RUN AND KONAMI ARE TAKING IT TO THE MAX
Revealed to the world mere hours ago is a collection perhaps thought more unlikely than Capcom’s compilation of fighting games. Limited Run Games, using their proprietary Carbon Engine, have partnered with Konami and Marvel Games to bring players the Marvel MaXimum Collection and it’s a dream come true to say the least. It includes:
- X-Men: The Arcade Game with rollback netcode provide by Komi Games Inc.. Julian Spillaine, the founder of Toronto based Komi, worked on the controversial to say the least X-Men: Destiny under Silicon Knights. We at Comic Book Video Games would like to give a shout out to Julian on their X-Men redemption arch.
- Captain America and The Avengers (Arcade/Genesis (Mega Drive)/NES). This will be the first time outside of an Arcade1up cabinet that the arcade version of this title has come home. The ports are also a welcome addition, especially the obscure NES offering that few people perhaps didn’t even know existed.
- Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade’s Revenge (SNES/Genesis (Mega Drive)/Game Boy/Game Gear). In all its incarnations, this game is tough but it has many redeeming qualities like a banger of a soundtrack. The collections included rewind/save states will be a bonus for this one and…
- Silver Surfer (NES).
- Spider-Man/Venom: Maximum Carnage (SNES/Genesis (Mega Drive) and Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety. This duo has been a long demanded collection for those who played them over 30 years ago, or simply want to experience them easily for the first time.
On top of the already mentioned rewind/save state feature, Marvel MaXimum Collection will have an archive that includes box art, manuals and promotional material as well as a music player and various filters. Keep checking back to the Limited Run Games website for information on how to get physical copies. If you’re the type of person who gasped when they heard of this compilation, you’ll want to have at least one physical copy for your shelf given the precarious place licensed games often find themselves in.
DC’S JUSTICE LEAGUE: COSMIC CHAOS WILL DISAPPEAR FROM DIGITAL PLATFORMS IN MARCH
Brought to our attention from Shaun Musgrave on Bluesky, our 2023 Game of the Year, DC’s Justice League: Cosmic Chaos will be delisted from digital stores in March. As always, you’ll be able to access this game if you’ve already bought it, but in a little over a month the only way to play it will be to grab a physical copy for the PlayStation, Nintendo Switch or Xbox. We’ve been a champion of Cosmic Chaos since it’s launch and we’re saddened to hear this news. Time will only be kinder to it, and given that many are shifting towards a digital library, it will only get harder to experience.
RELEASE DATES GALORE
Tomorrow, The Disney Afternoon Collection comes to the Nintendo Switch 1 and 2. It includes all the titles from the original release, including DuckTales and its sequel, plus Goof Troop and Bonkers which were originally released on the SNES. Physical copies will be made available starting May 29th, 2026.

Hoping to grab some of that pre-Grand Theft Auto VI hype, Marvel’s Wolverine will arrive on September 15th, 2026 for the PlayStation 5. Sony’s other Marvel offering, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls lands a month earlier on August 6th. For those who need their superhero fighting fix a little bit earlier, Invincible VS drops at the end of April. We won’t have to wait much longer for the sequel Scott Pilgrim EX as it comes to digital stores starting on March 3rd. If you missed the Limited Run Games pre-order window, outlets like PNP Games will start selling it on June 26th and pre-orders are already live. If you want to add another physical brawler to your collection, Marvel Cosmic Invasion is up for pre-order at various retailers with an April 17th launch window.
TMNT: SPLINTERED FATE EXPANDS ONCE MORE
If you’re on a budget, or simply want to an excuse to revisit a favorite, the rougelike TMNT: Splintered Fate just introduced a new character with the female fox warrior, Alopex. Adding them on your roster will only set you back a few dollars, and her inclusion builds upon the evolving narrative of the game. If you picked up a Nintendo Switch 2 over the holidays, you can get an optimization upgrade for Splintered Fate fairly inexpensively too.

PARTY, MAN WITH THE NEW LEGO BATMAN: LEGACY OF THE DARK KNIGHT TRAILER
Not to be outdone by all the Marvel news, a new trailer for the upcoming LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight just dropped that recreates the iconic museum scene, licensed track and all, from Batman (1989). It simply has to be seen to be believed, and it makes the wait for this one even more painful.
