Prior to this week’s blockbuster film the Avengers, each chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been accompanied by a videogame. Sure, those games were of varying quality (Iron Man nay, Captain America yeah), but they received games none the less.

Towards the end of last year, a video was shown of an Avengers game in development by THQ’s Australian studio that was canceled, by in large due to THQ’s current financial difficulties. In the alternate universe where the game actual saw the light of day, it would’ve been a first person action game featuring a playable Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Captain America.

The website Fusible discovered that on May the 3rd, when many like myself were gathered in lines in North America to witness Joss Whedon’s crowning achievement, avengersbattleforearth.com was registered under MarkMonitor. The name is also registered under Marvel Characters Inc. and is listed on several newsservers for publisher Ubisoft.

So, what does this mean? Is Ubisoft finishing the game that THQ was building? Are they making a completely new game? Will it be downloadable or retail? No one knows for certain at this point. With E3 around the corner, maybe some more information will be made available.
