SPOILERS: THE UNANNOUNCED FIGHTERS FOR MARVEL VS. CAPCOM: INFINITE POTENTIALLY LEAKS

We’re still a few months out from the September 19th release date of Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite and I’m sure with E3 just around the corner that Capcom is busy preparing some big character announcements for the anticipated fighting game. If NeoGAF forum user Ryce, who has previously leaked other MvC:I details is to be believed, he may have spoiled their surprises early. Though he states he’s missing a character from the Capcom camp, Ryce has revealed the roster for the game as follows:

CAPCOM:

  • Arthur
  • Chris
  • Chun-Li
  • Dante
  • Firebrand
  • Jedah
  • Monster Hunter
  • Morrigan
  • Nemesis
  • Ryu
  • Spencer
  • Strider Hiryu
  • X

MARVEL:

  • Ant-Man
  • Captain America
  • Captain Marvel
  • Doctor Strange
  • Gamora
  • Hawkeye
  • Hulk
  • Iron Man
  • Nova
  • Rocket/Groot
  • Spider-Man
  • Thanos
  • Thor
  • Ultron

This of course is not official, but if it turns out to be true, this will be the first time in the series history that a Marvel themed Capcom fighting game will not include any roster from the X-Men universe. Capcom’s first foray into a Marvel licensed fighter was the arcade game X-Men: Children of the Atom which was eventually ported to the PSOne and Sega Saturn and both hero and villain characters from the X-Men have appeared in all subsequent Marvel fighters from Capcom since. Just because there isn’t any X-Men in the initial roster doesn’t mean they couldn’t eventually show up in the game, however. Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite will be sold in several different SKU’s when it’s released including a Deluxe Edition that advertises six DLC characters, one of which is already confirmed to be Mega Man X villain Sigma who isn’t on Ryce’s list.

Though it’s looked like that Marvel has been distancing themselves from the X-Men as of because Marvel is owned by Disney, who makes the films in the shared Marvel Cinematic Universe, while the X-Men movie rights are firmly locked in by Fox, recent developments have shown a renewed interest in the X-Men from Marvel. Multiple X-Men comics have just been launched with new number one issues, a new wave of Marvel Legends’ themed X-Men figures have just made their way to store shelves and X-Men characters were just added to the mobile game Marvel Future Fight after two years since release so Vs. Series fans shouldn’t jump to conclusions just yet.
