Last week it was suddenly announced that Disney, the parent company of Marvel, had terminated its relationship with developer Gazillion, effectively killing their Marvel Heroes MMO that had been playable on PC since 2013 and consoles as of this summer. An update on that news advised that the game would still be playable up until December 31st of this year, but now it seems the game is sadly coming to an end a lot sooner. Multiple employees from Gazillion have taken to social media and stated that the entire staff has been laid off and the company shuttered with Marvel Heroes closing down for good this Friday, November 24th. What’s the worse news in all of this is that employees from Gazillion will receive no severance nor paid over time and they’ll lose their insurance benefits as well.
As I stated in my initial post on this news last week, and I know it may not mean much, but I express my deepest condolences to all those affected by these turn of events. I can only imagine how heart breaking it must be to work on something as big as Marvel Heroes and then have it taken away, especially at a time when those in the United Sstates are set to give thanks and with the holidays right around the corner.
