EXPECT TO BE ABLE TO BUY THE FINAL SEASON OF THE WALKING DEAD BY THE END OF THE MONTH AND PLAY EPISODE THREE BEFORE 2019

Ian Howe, the CEO of Skybound Games which is the company that is completing The Walking Dead: The Final Season from the now closed Telltale games, provided some developments about the future of the project in a recent AMA on Reddit. As part of Telltale’s closure, the final season of The Walking Dead was removed from digital store fronts but this is expected to change by the end of the month. When responding to a comment about when people who didn’t previously buy the Season Pass could expect it back on places like Steam and PSN, Howe said:

“We’ll be back on sale as soon as possible, I’d hope we can do this by the end of October,”

When pressed as to when players could expect a new episode, he further added:

“I fully expect Episode 3 to be this year and I’ll be very disappointed if we can’t make that happen,” he said.

When the prospect of another company helping out to complete The Walking Dead came up before the Skybound deal, it was stated by ex-Telltale employees that the third episode was nearly done and work had started up on episode four. As it stands now, however, no one is working on anything while the deal is still being worked on. Howe said:

“At this stage, we’re still in discussions with various members of the team and I met over 40 of them last week to discuss our plans moving forwards,…“They know what we’re trying to do and as soon as the lawyers have done their thing, we’ll be able to speak more openly.”

Kent Mudle, formerly of Telltale who was the creative director on The Final season was on hand with Howe during the AMA and was enthusiastic about getting to finish the series. Mudle stated:

“We’re currently intending to make the game as it was planned to be made before Telltale shut down,” adding ““I am beyond pumped to get a chance to finish the season. I could not have hoped we’d be so lucky to have Ian and the rest of Skybound come in and give us this opportunity, for which I am extremely grateful.”

More as it develops.
