If for some reason you haven’t purchased some of Telltale’s games like The Wolf Among Us, both seasons of Batman and Guardians of the Galaxy you might want to start buying them sooner rather than later. GOG.com just announced that as of Monday, May 27th 2019, many Telltale games will no longer be able to purchased from their store including:
- The Wolf Among Us
- Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy
- Hector: Badge of Carnage
- The Batman series
- The Sam & Max series
- The Puzzle Agent series
- Tales from the Borderlands
- Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People
If you’ve already purchased any of these games, GOG assures users that they’ll be able to redownload them, however no new transactions can occur after that date. This comes at no surprise as Telltale seemingly out of nowhere closed its doors last September, leaving many out of work and was the subject of a recent documentary by NoClip:
As of this writing, no other storefront has announced when they’ll be pulling these games from their services, but like it is with GOG, you had better act fast as it will assuredly happen sooner rather than later.. In the case of the current generation of consoles, certain games were collected on discs like The Wolf Among Us but most physical releases from Telltale contained only a single episode along with the ability to download the remainder of the episodes as they came out via a season pass. Though games are being pushed now more than away from physical media with Microsoft producing an Xbox One without a disc drive and Google’s Stadia video game streaming platform, circumstances such as the one regarding Telltale are why the physical preservation of video game is so important.
