If anyone continues to fan the flames of the movie tie-in game to keep a bygone era alive, it’s Outright Games. The publisher has produced games based on major DreamWorks properties, and even DC Comics based multimedia projects in the form of DC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Ace.
Outright’s latest collaboration is with none other than the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Announced today with but a solitary piece of concept art, Outright will produce a game based on the theatrically released Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. As opposed to being a simple retelling, however, it will take place after the events of the film with the four brothers butting heads with another mutant threat in their home of New York City.
The Turtles spotlight in the video game space is almost beginning to shine brighter than their heyday in the early 90s. Mutant Mayhem will follow the exceptional Shredder’s Revenge – which itself just got a big DLC update – and the equally terrific Cowabunga Collection from Digital Eclipse. In the future, THQ Nordic will publish a title based on The Last Ronin comics from developer Black Forest Games.
No developer was announced for Mutant Mayhem, but one can safely assume it will be their frequent collaborator PHL Collective. Earlier this year they surprised with DC’s Justice League: Cosmic Chaos, a game that flew under people’s radar but ended up delighting those who gave it a chance, including this site.
Hopefully they can bring some of that magic to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem when it releases on consoles and PC. With its almost Claymation look, Mutant Mayhem‘s style is perfect source material to being to the interactive space.
