Thanks to Matthew Riggs for bringing this to my attention.
This being E3 week and all, we’re all excited to get lost in all the hype of the new games, hardware and VR offerings coming down the pipeline. It appears that Activision however are perhaps looking to dig into their past catalog if some recently uncovered ratings are to be believed.
From Gematsu who uncovered the information from the Taiwan Game Software Rating Information Board (I really need to start casting a net to ratings boards, it seems), Activision has applied for ratings for three games from last generation for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One: The criminally underrated Transformers: Fall of Cybertron and both Marvel Ultimate Alliance games. What’s interesting is that they’re digging far back to remaster the first Marvel Ultimate Alliance, a game approaching ten years of age, but leaving out the first part of the Cybertron series, War for Cybertron.
What’s also peculiar is that Activision still holds the rights to the Transformers license, but I’m not one hundred percent sure if they have any stake on any Marvel property, though as I’m not a lawyer and not privy to such information it could be that the original licensing agreement made it such that they could rerelease a game even though the rights expired. More as it develops.
