Late last year it was uncovered that WB Games Montreal, those who worked on the prequel in the Arkham franchise, Batman: Arkham Origins, was working on not one, but two titles set in the DC Comics Universe. Speculation from sources indicated that one of the projects from the studio was to be a game based on the Suicide Squad property, which sounded like a sure thing given that Warner Bros. has given the series a push this year in the form of a big-budget theatrical film and that both Origins and its companion handheld title were littered with teases at something Suicide Squad related. The second rumoured project from the studio was the next chapter in the Batman franchise, this time focusing on a game where Batman’s son, Damien Wayne, was the caped crusader under the cowl.
Sources close to Kotaku have come out to them and said that the Suicide Squad game that was in development at WB Games Montreal for over two years has been cancelled with the staff now turning all their attention to a new Batman game. This comes after a management shake up at the studio with two major players at the studio: studio head Martin Carrier and executive producer Reid Schneider having left this year. The only reported reason for the shuddering of the Suicide Squad project is that management exactly wasn’t impressed with the game enough to keep investing in it.
A request for comment from WB Games was commissioned by Kotaku but they did not receive any response. More as it develops.
