It truly is fascinating the things you learn sometimes about comic book video games sometimes, take today’s information for example. In a case of six degrees of separation, a link has been made between NES light gun launch game Hogan’s Alley and a comic strip from the late 19th century. The game Hogan’s Alley is about shooting a gallery of criminals with the player having to pay special attention not to shoot civilians and police officers as part of their FBI training. The game got its name from a real life training facility used by the FBI that was once located in Ohio but has now since been moved to Virginia. The kicker is that Hogan’s Alley was not a name created by the FBI, instead it was borrowed from a comic strip that ran from 1895-1898 called The Yellow Kid, something the Bureau has admitted to. Curious where we got the name Hogan’s Alley? Turns out, we borrowed it from the “Hogan’s Alley” comic strip of the late 1800s. The alley was located in a rough neighborhood, so we thought the name fit our crime-ridden town.
