Announced last year during an unforgettable E3 press conference, we haven’t heard any new details about Insomniac’s PlayStation exclusive Spider-Man game since then, meaning that possibly it was earlier in development then we thought (hoped) and would not release this year. According to footage captured from a live stream by a Reddit user however, it looks like the game could indeed be arriving in 2017. In the stream, vice-president and executive editor of Marvel digital media Ryan Penagos stated the following:
““There’s even more on the horizon for 2017…Like Spider-Man coming to PlayStation 4 and Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, coming to Xbox One, PS4 and Windows PC.”
This of course could mean that we would be seeing more of the game this year, but putting it before Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite which was confirmed late last year to arriving towards the end of this year could lend some truth that he’s referring to a release date and not more coverage. Should the game (hopefully) arrive this year, it could be cause for concern seeing as how little of it has been shown off. Normally when any entertainment company is trying to hide something that’s not coming together right, they like to keep as most of it out of the hands of the press and influencers as possible. That also being said, Capcom announced Resident Evil 7: Biohazard during the same E3 last year, released it six months later with nothing but a few small demos and it was an early contender for game of the year.
Sony has also been on a hot streak as of late with their first-party games, releasing both The Last Guardian and Horizon: Zero Dawn within months of one another and still have The Last of Us Part 2 and the God of War reboot in the pipeline. More as it develops.
