Today as part of the D23 event, Disney spent an hour showing off their upcoming games in the Marvel, Disney, and Star Wars camps, revealing new footage for Star Wars: Battlefront II, a (possible) release window and new world for Kingdom Hearts III and several Marvel related games, including an announcement of a new game. While now new gameplay was shown for Marvel’s Spider-Man for the PS4, there was some concept art shown for things like a battle with the Kingpin (in the E3 video he’s already behind bars) as well as a look at Peter’s apartment. The art and footage taken from E3 was spliced in with some genuinely moving video from the staff at Insomniac including creative director Bryan Intihar who are not lying when they say they love the character of Spider-Man and want to produce the best possible product. It’s very easy to tell that despite being built by a huge AAA game studio, there’s a lot of love and heart being poured into the project and 2018 can’t come soon enough:
Speaking of Spider-Man, Peter’s homemade suit as seen in Spider-Man: Homecoming was announced for Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2:
Quite possibly the biggest news from the show was the only new Marvel game, an Oculus Rift exclusive VR title called Marvel Powers United VR. The game is played in first-person and uses the Rift’s touch controllers and can best be described as a more refined version of THQ’s Avengers first-person game that was cancelled before release back in 2012. So far Rocket Raccoon, Hulk and Captain Marvel are the only characters that have been shown for the title:
