DC Comics was set to unveil their new slate of video games at their DC FanDome event on August 22nd, but if some recent leaks are to be believed, the Catwoman appears to be out of the bag already. From Eurogamer commenting on posts from Resetera – which Eurogamer has verified to be true – the new game from Arkham series creator Rocksteady will be a Suicide Squad game while the next game from Batman: Arkham Origins developer WB Games Montreal will continue The Dark Knight’s video game legacy.
Resetera posted the URL’s “SuicideSquadKillTheJusticeLeague.com” and “SuicideSquadGame.com”, confirming this to be Rocksteady’s next project which will be for the next generation of consoles. While the player will be in control of the villains this time around, it very much looks like DC’s premier team of heroes will indeed be playing a major role as “Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League” could very well wind up being the final game title.
A Suicide Squad game has been rumored in some capacity for quite some time. One of the earliest pieces reported on this site was DC Comics scribe Geoff Johns teasing a Suicide Squad game, and in the dual release of 2013’s Batman: Arkham Origins and Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, the formation of the team was strongly hinted at. Warner Bros. would even go on to product an animated film set in the Arkham universe starring the team.
WB Games Montreal’s title will use the title “Gotham Knights” in some capacity going by the discovered URL “GothamKnightsGame.com”, marking the next chapter in Batman’s interactive saga perhaps dealing with the Court of Owls, something that WB Games Montreal has been hinting at for quite some time. According to Eurogamer, both games will be shown off in August with the Batman game launching sooner than Rocksteady’s game which is still a ways off.
We’ll find out more in August at the DC FanDome event.
