Though a firm release date or price has yet to be revealed by Sony as it pertains to the PlayStation 5, today they put out some new information about the hotly anticipated console, specifically what peripherals players have invested into their PlayStation 4’s that will be able to move forward later this year. Of particular note to those who enjoyed Marvel’s Iron Man VR last month is if that game will work on the PS5.
Like it was when it jumped from the original PlayStation to the PlayStation 2, the DualShock 4 controller will work with all PlayStation 4 games that run on the PlayStation 5, however you won’t be able to use the DualShock 4 when enjoying PlayStation 5 games. The PlayStation Move Controllers as well as the PlayStation VR aim controller will work with PSVR games that will be forwards compatible with the PlayStation 5 also. In order to use these however, you still need the PlayStation Camera which does not work with the PS5 out of the box. An adapter will be required to make the PS Camera work with the PS5, but Sony has stated that players will be able to obtain this free of charge. Right now, Sony hasn’t provided any details on how you will go about claiming this necessary add-on, but they will supply details at a later date.
So what does this mean for Marvel’s Iron Man VR exactly? Everything that’s needed to play the game will work on the PlayStation 5, but it’s unclear if the game will play on the system, at least initially. Marvel’s Iron Man VR went gold back on May 28th of this year, a little over a month before the game’s July 3rd release date. Since then, Sony issued a statement that all games submitted to Sony from July 13th of this year onward must also work on the PlayStation 5. Given that Marvel’s Iron Man VR is a first-party game published by Sony, there’s a strong chance it will work on a PS5, but until there’s official confirmation, right now there are still no guarantees.
More as it develops.
Marvel’s Iron Man VR is available now for the PlayStation 4, requiring the PSVR headset and two PS Move controllers.
