Sony’s still confident that the PlayStation 5 is coming out this year, even as the days go by and there isn’t so much as a whisper of a release date or a price. Whenever it does arrive, the next chapter in Sony’s Spider-Man saga, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, won’t be too far behind. Sadly, those who have a muscle memory for controlling Spider-Man on the DualShock 4 will have to readjust to the new DualSense controller, for as we learned earlier this summer, you cannot play PS5 games with last gen input devices. According to Miles Morales’ Creative Director, Brian Horton, the trade off is that this will allow for an even more immersive experience. From Horton speaking to the PlayStation Blog:
“The haptic feedback precision allows us to do all sorts of new things. In Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, we’ll be hinting to players which direction attacks are coming from by providing haptic feedback from the appropriate direction on the DualSense wireless controller. What does it feel like to use Miles’s stealth ability? How does a Venom Blast feel? Because of the high resolution of DualSense wireless controller’s haptics system, we can really push the dimensionality of the feedback. For instance, as you hold down Square to do a Venom Punch, you feel Spider-Man’s bio-electricity crackle across from the left side of the controller, culminating in the right side on impact.”
Given the state of the world, an expensive next-generation console is going to be a tough sell for many, However, there’s no denying that whenever even a little bit of information trickles out regarding Miles Morales, it’s hard not to not get excited to see what Insomniac is going to be able to accomplish with just a small fraction of the PS5’s power. Given that much of the functionality of the game is centered around the DualSense, this eliminates any chance of Miles Morales getting a downgraded version for the PS4 too.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is scheduled to arrive holiday 2020, exclusively to the PlayStation 5.
