While Batman hasn’t exactly fallen out of the video game spotlight, he did appear in ensemble pieces like LEGO DC Super-Villains and Injustice 2 after all, it has been a while since either him, or his extended family, have had a game all to themselves. It looks like players will have to wait a little bit longer, as Gotham Knights, a single player and co-op enabled title starring Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin and Red Hood announced last year for a 2021 release, has been delayed into 2022.
From a statement made on the official Gotham Knights twitter account:
“We are giving the game more time to deliver the best possible experience for players. Thank you to our amazing fans for your tremendous support of Gotham Knights. We look forward to showcasing more of the game in the coming months.“
Delays are always a tough thing to come to terms with when anticipating anything, whether that’s a video game, movie, or any type of media, but the hope is that the development team at WB Games Montreal will use this time to make Gotham Knights the best it can be.
This is something that could be expected for a lot of games originally scheduled for this year moving forward. Studios are continuously dealing with work from home situations due to the still ongoing pandemic, and then there’s the case of the disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077 where due to the titles poor quality and performance, refunds were issued to customers and it was also pulled from places like PlayStation’s digital store.
If you recall, Cyberpunk 2077’s publisher, at least for physical copies, was WB Games, and a situation like they found themselves in late last year/early this year is something they assuredly don’t wish to repeat.
As of this writing, Gotham Knights is scheduled to come to PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox one and Series X/S as well as PC.
