The summer blockbuster season officially kicks off this week with the release of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, and like clock work, Free Comic Book Day also falls on the same weekend. For those who live in the United States, you can visit your local retailer to get a free prologue comic that bridges the events between Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and the hotly anticipated Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Written by Christos Gage with art by Ig Guara, the issue sees both Peter and Miles teaming up to battle this universes version of The Hood.
For those who want to read the issue but don’t live in the US or have a friend that resides there to snag them a copy, it will be put up online as a digital comic for other regions in the future.
When Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales launched with the PlayStation 5 in November of 2020, it came as both a Standard as well as Ultimate Edition with the latter containing a voucher for a remaster of Marvel’s Spider-Man. Until this week, this was the only way to obtain the remaster of the game that started it all, at least on consoles. Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered has been available for purchase on Steam by itself since August of last year.
The PlayStation 5 is almost 2 and a half years old, and now players can finally purchase Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered as a standalone product. The PlayStation store lists it at $50 – in Canada – or, if you’ve purchased either the physical or digital version of the game on PlayStation 4, you can upgrade to the remaster for $10. Insomniac Games has laid out the steps about how to upgrade and you can read it here.
Thanks to Nightdive Studios, the cult favorite Shadowman was resurrected for modern consoles and PC via an excellent remaster that even went as far to add material left on the cutting room floor from the 1999 original. In a news announcement that no one saw coming, Shadowman is going to get his first new game since Shadowman: 2econd Coming which released on the PlayStation 2 all the way back in 2002.
Hailing from Australian based Blowfish Studios, Shadowman Darque Legacy is set to arrive on the PlayStation and Xbox family of consoles as well as PC in the fourth quarter of this year. A brief 1 minute long teaser accompanied the reveal that set the tone for the title more than anything and is completely devoid of any gameplay footage.
This isn’t a follow-up to Acclaim’s take on the character, instead using the most recent run in the pages of Valiant Comics as inspiration. From the official press release:
“For centuries, the Boniface family has carried a dark legacy – the mantle of the Shadowman, walker between worlds, sworn to preserve the veil between life and death. Now, novice Shadowman Jack Boniface is thrust into the path of a growing evil that threatens everything his predecessors fought for. Building upon the decades of Shadowman tales told within Valiant Comics, this new chapter is an original story developed in partnership with Valiant Entertainment.
In SHADOWMAN® Darque Legacy, duel against a horrifying cast of enemies in challenging, visceral combat. Clash with the fanatical Brethren cultists, from hammer-wielding brutes to sorcerous necromancers, and battle truly wretched creatures that have slithered forth from the most desolate depths. Deliver brutal and bloody finishers with a range of Shadowman weapons.
