Perhaps one of this year’s most pleasant surprises in the video game space was the reveal of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. A collaboration between Dotemu and Tribute Games, including people responsible for the likes of Streets of Rage 4 and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game, Shredder’s Revenge is an unabashed love letter to the beloved TMNT games from the early 90s from Konami but with a modern twist.
After its debut trailer dropped with thunderous amounts of hype, news has been quiet on Shredder’s Revenge, with the game even skipping this year’s digital E3. However, during Geoff’s Keighley’s Opening Night Live event as part of Gamescom, there’s finally been some new toppings sprinkled on the Shredder’s Revenge pizza.
For those hoping to battle the forces of the Foot Clan with a friend in 2021, you’re sadly going to have to wait until next year as like many titles, it won’t arrive until 2022 at an undetermined time. Patience is a virtue though, as Streets of Rage 4 released in 2020 after its 2018 unveiling and it was well wroth the wait.
The more important takeaway from Shredder’s Revenge‘s reappearance today is the game’s new playable character: April O’Neil. Far removed from her days as a damsel in distress, the yellow jumpsuit wearing Channel 6 news reporter will fight alongside the Heroes in a Half Shell, even going as far as to drop the mic on fallen foot.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge arrives 2022 for consoles and PC.
