The video game industry tends to be rife with leaks, with the existence of titles often being made public months before they were ever intended to. That’s why today’s news is both genuinely surprising and exciting.
Dotemu, the studio behind such beloved SEGA revivals as last year’s Streets of Rage 4 and Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, is teaming up with Tribute Games, those who helped work on Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game and the underappreciated TMNT (2007) for Game Boy Advance, have just announced a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game.
Sub-titled Shredder’s Revenge, the just unveiled project is a throwback to Konami’s TMNT titles from the late 80’s/early 90’s down to its plot, which has Rocksteady and Bebop assaulting Channel 6 to steal “gnarly” – their words – devices for their masters, Krang and Shredder.
Given the talent behind the project, expectations are high that this could very well be the game that truly captures the feeling of games like Turtles in Time and The Hyperstone Heist. Right now, Shredder’s Revenge only has a listing for Steam with a “Coming Soon” release date, but hopefully like the other games worked on by the studios in question it will make its way to consoles too.
